WORK ETHIC SKILLS EVALUATION
Before report cards are issued all students will complete a self evaluation on their own work ethic skills. In a private conference with the science teacher a work ethic mark will be agreed upon. Without a doubt, strong work habits will result in higher achievement. Work ethic is evaluated according to the 21st century skills that will help you succeed! Students must meet the minimum expectations for each category in order to earn the appropriate G, S, or N. For each of the following work ethic skills, students will award themselves either:
C - for Consistently (which = G)
S - for Sometimes (which = S)
R - for Rarely (which = N)
What follows are the work ethic skills that will be evaluated:

What follows are the work ethic skills that will be evaluated:
I am a Learner, therefore:
- I have an excellent attendance record and come to class every day (unless unavoidable).
- I am punctual and arrive to class on time at the beginning of class AND after break.
- I listen to instructions.
- I use class time effectively and get right to the task at hand.
- I am reliable and can be depended upon to do the right thing in class.
- I bring all of the necessary materials to class (binder, pencil, pen, duotang, text…).
- I keep my binder organized, and when I receive work back from the teacher I organize it in the appropriate spot in my binder.
- I have an agenda book (whether it is a book, an app, or another form) and use it daily to write down what will be expected of me next class. When I am at home, I check my agenda to see if I am prepared.
- I work hard to complete my in-class assignments and hand things in on time.
- I complete my research/projects/presentations on time.
- I diligently watch all screencasts/power points so I have a good understanding of the content.
- I can work quietly and independently when my learning requires it.
- I always use my time wisely (in class and outside of class).
- I always do my best possible work.
- I come to class with an open mind, ready to work, have fun, and voice my opinions.
- I ask for help when I'm unsure. If I can't during class, I see Mrs. McBride outside of class for assistance.
- I have confidence that I can always improve and am not satisfied with 'good enough'.
- I am not distracted by other people or by my device during class. I don't let anyone or anything to get in the way of my learning.
-
I only use my device for educational purposes.
I am a Collaborator, therefore:
- I work well with others (am a team player).
- I have a positive impact on the people around me and on my learning environment (I make learning fun).
- I actively participate in learning activities (I jump right in and get to work).
- I am able to share my point of view (what I believe about the content we are learning) with my classmates.
- I am a good listener (I don't talk over people). I listen and try to learn from others.
- I work with my teammates by learning from them and being a good teacher/mentor.
- I respect the property, personal space, and ideas of others.
- I respect my teammate’s need for quiet reflection.
- I treat all of the people in our class as I expect to be treated.
- I pull my own weight and work hard for my team.
- I can resolve conflicts with others.
-
When I am assessing my peers, I am considerate, honest,
thoughtful and constructively critical.
I am Innovative and I am a thinker, therefore: - I self-assess my own learning (in my assessment duotang) and reflect on how I can better understand the Prescribed Learning Outcomes (PLO’s).
- When I receive feedback from Mrs. McBride and my peers, I closely listen to/read their comments and work to improve the gaps in my understanding. I don’t ignore my feedback.
- I set goals to progress my understanding and work hard towards increasing my understanding of the PLO’s.
- When I make mistakes I use that as an opportunity to improve.
- I can apply the content I learn (PLO’s) to situations that are different from how I specifically learned them.
- I ask questions and try to find the answers to those questions.
- I consider other's points of view when I am forming my own opinions.
- Once I’ve formed my own opinions, I can justify them as I have knowledge to back up my points of view).
- I strive to create powerful presentations that are unique and interesting for people to watch.
- I make creative choices and offer new ideas.
- I take risks and push my limits educationally.
I am a Creator and Can Communicate With Others , therefore:
- I can create meaningful presentations that teach the other students in my class what I have learned.
- I can work to understand a concept (beyond a surface understanding) so I am able to teach it to others.
- I am able to use many different types of technology to solve problems and communicate my learning to the class.
- I can use my device (phone, iPod, iPad, tablet, laptop …) to search, find and create things.
-
I
am aware of my digital footprint and understand that everything I put on the Internet
(twitter, website, blog, YouTube) will be there forever and I am careful to
leave a positive impression of myself.
